Ancient Britain & Stonehenge

Today in history, we started learning about ancient Britain. The kids enjoyed hearing stories about the Angles, Saxons, and Britons. They listened to a story about King Arthur and remembered the movies "The Sword in the Stone" and "Quest for Camelot". We had a great discussion about the differences in the Roman's attire when they invaded Britain verses the Briton's attire (the Romans were MUCH more advanced and had armor, but the Britons did not). We looked at pictures of what the Briton's huts might have looked like, as well as their attire vs. that of the Romans. We listened to an audio recording the kids really enjoyed that told more about what times were like then.  The culminating activity was making Stonehenge with Play-doh.  The kids REALLY enjoyed that!!!

A Good Week

This week, we have learned about the temptations of Jesus in the wilderness and about being fishers of men. We watched and discussed this video on Christ. The kids did a fun activity today with chalk, glue, and construction paper today.

We also finished up our daily journal entries for the week. Here are our answers to the questions (answers are in no particular order):

Monday: Where is a place you feel close to God? Temple, church, home

Tuesday: How can you resist temptations you might feel: read a book, have alone time, play, be nice, listen to good music, say a prayer, read scriptures, be reverent, share the Gospel

Wednesday: Who is stronger, Jesus or Satan? Jesus  How can I be stronger than Satan? Tell the truth, be nice, pray, love others, memorize scriptures & good songs

Thursday: How can I have the courage to stand up for what's right, even if it makes others upset? pray, be nice, tell the truth, say no, preach, learn what's right & used that knowledge to teach others

Friday: What can you give up to follow Jesus? Being a bad boy, bad thoughts, Satan's love, Satan's temptations, selfishness, bad habits

We are really enjoying studying and discussing the scriptures together. It's so nice to not have to beg the kids to come to the table; they are asking to do it!!!

Field Trip to Wolf Gap

Close to us here in Pulaski, TN, is an amazing place called Wolf Gap. They have been doing an archaeology dig over the last few weeks and have found numerous artifacts. Yesterday, they opened up to the public to be able to come, see what has been found, explore the dig sites, and ask questions. Everyone was full of questions, and much was learned. The kids were particularly excited when they were allowed to help sift the dirt that had been dug up. This is a picture-filled post!!!

A New Year, A New Curriculum

Our church has put out a new curriculum to help guide families through the study of the New Testament during 2019. This Come Follow Me curriculum is amazing, and it has already made a difference in our family. The kids LOVE reading and doing the activities I have found for them (see favorite links on the side for links to CFM and the activities we use). There are journal entries they can do too! I will scan some of their completed journal pages and activities, as well as try to take some pictures. The kids ask to read scriptures now!!! I have also come up with a new way to be organized with meals, tasks, etc. My goal is to write about what we do in school at least weekly. I will also post helpful, fun, or other links I find that I use regularly. If you have a blog you'd like me to add to my links, please put it in the comments.

Have a blessed day, and remember, you are loved!!!
